Valtrex Review: Daily Preventative For Genital Herpes

Valtrex Genital Herpes PreventionAs our focus for this week is on genital herpes, we’re going to talk about one specific preventative medication that is starting to become more and more popular amongst the majority of sufferers.

The product we’re referring too?

Valtrex. In this our official Valtrex review, we’re going to be breaking down this treatment method so that hopefully we can offer you guys the opportunity to make a decision as to whether or not it might be a good option for you.

Let’s take a closer look.

What Is It?

As we mentioned before, Valtrex is a form of genital herpes prevention. It’s based on the premise that by boosting your immune system it will lead to better control over the Herpes Simplex Virus(HSV), preventing it from replicating to a point where symptoms can arise.

Valacyclovir PillsThe primary ingredient used in Valtrex is an antiviral medication known as valacyclovir, which is basically the same ingredient used in Zoviraxaciclovir, only this one is better adapted to oral bioavailability.

This just means that it works better when taken as a pill and not a cream.

It was designed under the same idea of which Zovirax was created and that is to stop virus cells from replicating within your own body cells.

Taking Valtrex daily is supposed to reduce both the nature and frequency of breakouts. It also requires a prescription from a doctor due to the potential side effects associated with long term use.

What We Like About It

Because genital herpes is an incurable disease, we’re all for treatment methods that focus on prevention as opposed to dealing with the problem when it arises.

Secondly so far it does have a good track record as far as results go, plus it is the only preventative medication for HSV that has been clinically proven to have an effect on the virus. Something that no natural medication has been able to show.

In saying that, there are some problems.

What We Don’t Like

Although the results so far are proving to be good, there are a lot of problems with this form of treatment. The first one is probably the worst and it’s the potential side effects associated, including:

  • Can cause kidney problemsHeadaches
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Stomach pain
  • Vomiting
  • Drowsiness
  • Kidney failure

The list as you can tell is quite long and Valtrex do not try and hide the potential problems, listing them all on their website.

Secondly, due to the fact you require a prescription to use this product, it can sometimes be hard convincing your doctor that it might be a good option for you.

It’s starting to gain some exposure so hopefully more doctors become aware of Valtrex in the near future and prescribe it to those who aren’t at risk of any of the above side effects.

Finally, it will not clear up existing breakouts immediately. Instead it’s more of a preventative as opposed to a way of treating symptoms when they appear. If you are having a breakout, the better option would be to go with a treatment option that works fast to remove symptoms like Dynamiclear or Zovirax.

Overall Score

We’ll admit that right now the best form of treatment is prevention, which does give Valtrex some brownie points. The issue however is that there is a high chance of problems arising over long term use, especially in regards to kidney disease.

Prescription pills should only be used when your doctor says so, however it’s also a great idea to help naturally boost your immune system using supplements like L-lysine and Echinacea to help keep the virus under control. There are far less side effects associated to natural medication.

Also Valtrex certainly isn’t a speedy approach to removing symptoms of genital herpes, so a better all round option would be a solution like Dynamiclear instead.

All in all, Valtrex is looking like it’s the future of antiviral medication and that’s why we stuck it at #3 on our Genital Herpes Treatment Leaderboard.

Overall Score: 90%
